Who we are

Pisgah Base Camp is a vacation rental in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, owned by James Banks. This policy covers pisgahbasecamp.com and the Pisgah Basecamp Assistant on this site. Booking happens on book.pisgahbasecamp.com, Airbnb, or VRBO, and each of those has its own privacy policy.

The Pisgah Basecamp Assistant

The assistant is an AI. Its answers can be wrong. Confirm anything that matters, such as check-in details, house rules, or whether a business or road is open, with the hosts or the business before you rely on it.

When you use the assistant, we store the text of your conversation so the assistant can follow along from one message to the next. Conversations are set to delete 90 days after the last message.

If you ask the assistant to pass a message to the hosts, we store that message and the conversation it came from for one year after it is sent, so the hosts can follow up and keep a record. We store your name, email address, or phone number only if you give them. You can send a message without them.

To answer some questions, the assistant uses outside services. Anthropic provides the AI model and processes your messages to write a reply. Google provides business hours. The National Park Service and NC DOT provide road status. Amazon Web Services hosts the assistant and stores the conversations. When the assistant checks hours or roads, it sends Google, the Park Service, or NC DOT only the name of the place or road it is looking up.

We also keep short-lived counts tied to your conversation and your internet address. We use them to limit how many messages one visitor can send, and they delete within about two days.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to see which pages people visit and how they find the site. Google Analytics uses cookies. You can block them in your browser settings or with Google's opt-out add-on.

Text message alerts

When you ask the assistant to reach the hosts, the hosts may get a short text alert from our toll-free number. Those texts go only to the hosts. We never text visitors or guests from this number. The full terms are on the SMS terms page.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your information. We do not use your conversations for advertising.

Your choices

You can ask us to delete a conversation or a message you sent to the hosts. Ask the assistant to pass that request to the hosts, or message the hosts through your booking messages. We will delete it unless we need it to resolve an open issue with a stay.

Children

This site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top.
